Going to change the rear suspension bushes on my 200tdi defender.

Any tips. Looks very straight forward. I was just going to unbolt the bolt and replace them. Is there something I’m missing or should you take the wheel off and jack it up etc?

Take it you mean the ones on the axle. If so yes, remove bolt and then big nut at the chassis bush to remove trailing arm. If original bush type it will be hacksaw and chisel to remove or take to someone with a press. If polly type should be able to do there and then, a vice is handy for putting one piece type polly's in. Best done with wheel on [ chocked ] and one side at a time.
Hint. Often the bolt and the holes in the axle bracket can be worn. New bolt and washers welded to bracket to fix.

Bollox, just typed the above, Yes just un do shock nut's bottom ones can snap so treat with plus gas / RP 90.

There are two bushes on the bottom of the shock, 1 above and 1 below the bracket welded to the rear axle.
I would jack up the rear axle and remove the wheel and then support the chassis (I use an axle stand and a piece of wood) and then lower the axle to a point where the spring isn't under a huge load.
Undo the lower nut. You may need to hold the body of the shock absorber to stop it turning, use a plumbers pipe wrench and some rag (so you dont rub the paint off when it slips round), unlike the bloke that fitted the ones in the photo below, you can see where the paint was removed.

There are 4 washers. 2 thick and two slightly thinner which have 'lips' on them. The lips fit into the hole in the bracket and the thicker ones against the shock body and the bottom nut, like the pic below).

When the bottom nut is removed you can push the shock absorber up and get the top bush/washers off.
When you fit the new parts you may need to raise the axle slightly and hold the shock body tightly so you can get the bottom nut started. When it's on there are is a flat section on the bottom of the shock that you can get a 10mm spanner on so you can get the nut started but you're better off holding the shock with the plumbers wrench so it doesn't turrn as they need to be done up tight with enough thread sticking out so that the lock nut won't come off.

Warning - gratuitous hijack of thread - Warning :)

I've got a set of used ones on the Bay of E Defender 90 Disco1 & RRC Heavy Duty Performance Rear Springs, Shocks and Mounts | eBay
£85 any good ?

I've got the fronts as well ..... They were new in 2015/16 fitted to a D90 that spent most of its time driving around Hereford streets by a Dentist.
They too are 'used' but not abused. Could do with a rub down and a lick of paint TBH - Blue or Black would be my pref ....

£110 delivered for both ...
