Rear Shockers - Beveled washers

It ws pointed out to me this weekend by a friend that i may have the beveled washers on my rear upper shocker mounts the wrong way round. I currently have both dishes facing inwards, he said that the dish should be facing outwards and them both 'pointing' inwards. Can someone please clarify for me?
