hiya

i do apologise for asking

as mine is the 2002 model and has the clear indicator lenes for the indicator and reversing can i just simply shorten and lengthen the wires and rear cluster connectirs please

ive read the my freelander web site and it seems to be for the earlier model

is it quite simple to do please, as ive read about having to splice into wires, but thought if i can simply swap them round so the brake and indicators are up high and the reverse and fogs are low level please

once again i so apologise for asking and if someone has done this on a 2002 model and just found a simple solution of just swapping them around

thks so mcu again and please try and not put me in the stockades for asking yet another daft question

cheers guys

I did it on my 2001 but I did not swap them around I just put a double type bulb socket into the top one so I could have the fogs on but also the side lights so when there was no fog I would have 4 back side lights but never tried to have what you want to do

hiya

thats a good idea, i think like most people it seems alot safer to have the brake lights higher instead of the brake lights in the bumper

so if i got a double element bulb same as a stop tail bulb could then just put that in fog light, but then link in the side lights

if that makes sense

but another thought i had was the different type of lens, between the fog light and normal lower brake light lens

but must admit like ur idea as i could have sidelights in the lower bumper section and also in the fog lens, but then would still have the brake lights come on in the bumper and high centre level

i do like ur idea as it seems very simple and makes the rear of the freelander nore noticeable

may i ask what type of bulb holder etc u put into the fog light in order to give u a combined fog and side light one please

i assume then would have to see what the side light watts were and the rear fog light watts were as well

sorry stuggle to try and explain sometimes and that other people can understand it, lol

as with the funeral coming up on the 23 rd my brain is a bit fried

or see if this makes sense

the reverse light make an indicator, the fog a stop and tail,

bumper lights, clear lens make a reverse light and other red one the fig

but like ur idea better

bless u

Hi, have always thought about doing this but always wondered if there were legal issues attached....ie police/MOTS

The light configuration of the back of the Freelander 1 & even the facelift model has always seemed to me to be 'out of sorts' & i think the sidelights/breaking could be visually better......

A future afternoon project beckons.........:D

mmm, i see also what u mean ref the law side etc

but also thought of maybe swapping the indicators and reversing lights over

as im also wondering due to the different material the lenses are made of of between the lower and upper fog lights

room for thought though

electrically, they can be swapped around and the cables shortened or extended (within reason) as you see fit.

I think (maybe with a little fettling) the bulb holder for the side and brake light can be made to fit where the foglight was and vice versa so you end up with the side/brake lights on the side cluster (the high one) and the foglight at the lower cluster.

this was a quite popular modification a while back with a bit written about it.

No reason that you couldn't swap the reverse and indicator round too, but would think the light given from the reversing lights would be noticeably poorer due to the design.

thks guys

i think i will firstly take out the lights and holders etc to have a closer look at them and see whats what with them

im not sure but isnt the facelift model got the brake and indicator lighers high up and the fogs and reverse lower

i really noticed it one eveing when i was following a freelander down an unlit lane and really noticed how truely inaffective the current set up truely is

thks again

Look here
Freelander - Rear Lights Re-arrangement - Land Rover

That guy swapped reverse with indicators, and make dual sidelights on LR'parts and slight wiring modification. Maybe help.
