Hi guys

Rear Fog on 300 tdi is badly corroded and needs replacing, looking at the old unit in situ, Ive seen the 2 retaining bolts at the back of the unit but im unsure how it connects into the wiring loom? all I can see is a the black wiring sleeve all the way up to floor

Are there connectors underneath the sleeve which pull off? im afriad of pulling it too much incase the are soldered in.

I realise this is a beginner question but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

From memory, you have to remove the light wiring covers inside.the connecters are behind them.
You may find when you come to undo the nuts holding the lamp that they just go round and round and won't undo. This is because the threads are bonded into the plastic housing and if the nuts are rusted the bonding fails and allows the studs to rotate.
You will have to butcher the old lamp off with your preferred method if that happens.
On mine, before fitting the new lamp ( reverse lamp is the same, just clear lens BTW) I ground out the studs and replaced using ss nuts and screws so it'll come off easy next time.
All this advice is for the rectangular lamps, the later round type might be different?

If it is the square type, if you're replacing it anyway, best bet is to take the lens off and light fitting out and drill out the top of the plastic mouldings that hold the studs onto the housing.
The wires should just have bullet connectors that go through the grommets on the tub floor

As above, the wiring should lead to connectors behind a metal cover inside the rear corner of the tub. I find the easiest way to get rid of the old corroded nuts is to grind them off from inside the wheel arch with a 4" grinder and a new disc.

Thanks for the replies, how do you get access to to this metal cover, is it from the inside of the tub? is it beneath the carpet?

Open the back door, 2 covers, 1 either side where the rear of your indicator lamps would be.
Below those little windows either side of the back door window.
