Hi all, my old 90 failed it's mot again (as usual lol) on uneven braking on the rear.

I tried adjusting the snail cam is it called? On the back of the drum and it was solid!

Iv ordered some new ones and a set of brake shoes and I'm going to tackle it on Saturday ready for the re test on Monday.

Is this a hard job to replace the adjusters? I'm just after any advice before I start so I don't get it wrong!

Cheers! Tom.

Good chance that the hub oil seal or the slave itself is leaking so get some spares before you start.
I find drum brakes are fine if in good order but do use branded parts like Mintex.

I should think that once you have the drum exposed and the shoes off then you can lube the adjusters and give them a few spins with a spanner to free them off, just make sure that no oil/whatever comes anywhere near the friction surfaces when you re-assemble. Worked for me so I've got a pair of adjuster rebuild kits in me spares box.

if after all the sugestions made don't work have you inspected drums with hgv you can get a situation where the drums become glazed or oval do you do any heavy towing which can get drums hot and eventualy they may become glazed

Hi guys finally got round to doing it, the old adjuster was seized and the nut head rounded off so I couldent adjust it. I took the drum off and the shoes out and in the end had to grind the old adjuster out. I fitted new adjuster gave the backplate and drum a good clean up then fitted new shoes too. Once back together I adjusted them both even and close to the drum and now they are spot on! And the pedal braking point is a lot higher.
It failed the mot on uneven braking before I did this but when retested passed without any advisories so I'm we'll chuffed! Total cost £7 for the adjusters and £13 for the shoes.

Cheers guys.
