rear door locking mechanisms

I have a 1997 4.6 hse range rover , just bought 2 rear door locks off e bay , plugged into my car they work with the central locking from front doors which is a good start , but it seems the exterior door handle to lock is different , there are slightly different bars and movements on mine than the new ones off a 1996 dse , Am i going nuts or are there different types of rear door locks throughout the range of cars or years ?????? i have not fully taken mine out yet as i still need doors to shut as driving it daily , are the bars or mechanisms inter changeable ? before i start taking vehicle propery to bits .... cheers for any help

If i use the new locks door handles as they look externally the same but must have different poles or latch mechanisms will they work ? i takeit they fit the same as al door handles ?

According to rave , you need to take out the rear window mechanism to remove the door locks ! and renew .. is this correct ? or can you remove locks with window mechanism in situ ?
