Rear door lock hassle

Hi,

A previous owner of my Landy 90 thought it'd be a great idea to investigate why the rear door lock wasn't working properly - so they drilled off all the rivets, managed to lose half the contents, and then bodged it back onto the door - presumably in the hope that nobody would notice. Well I noticed - when I undid the nuts and bolts holding it to the door and the whole thing fell to pieces on my drive. :( I managed to re-assemble it so that at least it holds the door shut, but it was clear I needed a new lock.

So I bought one off ebay - it looks like this:

No problems fitting it - but then I tried to close the door. The piece of metal that the lock latches onto is completely the wrong shape. Presumably there have been revisions to the rear door lock over the years, even though the mounting on the door is exactly the same.

So I need to know what the piece that attaches to the door frame where the lock meets the car looks like. And then I'll have to see if I can find one!

Anyone got any pointers?

Thanks in advance,
Ian.

I think they did change the back door lock as I have just had to buy one for mine, they have an anti lever/jimy one which has a rubber bit and a wedge like mine 1992 and the earlier ones didnt have the wedge (or so they guy said when i bought mine)

Seems they could be opened by lifting the door with a screwdriver.

I realised after I'd posted that you'd probably want to see what's already on the door!

Here's a couple of pictures of the current lock and latch, and the new lock.

My Landy is a 1988 90 (originally a CSW).

It may well be that the lock I've bought is the older style, and hence not quite as "safe" as the newer ones. But let's be honest, security on a Land Rover has never been a strong point - and I'll just be pleased to have a back door that locks at all!

Thanks in advance,
Ian.

Anyone? What is the proper term for ¨that bit on the door frame that the lock latches onto¨? At least then I can ring round some breakers. Thanks very much in advance.

Ian.

A quick Google search brings up this image (see below). Before I order one, can someone confirm that this striker plate goes with the new lock I've bought? Don't want to end up with yet another part that doesn't fit.

Ta muchly,
Ian.

I've got an older 87 rear door lock thats fallen to pieces, if you want to sell your good old lock, I'd be happy to buy it off you. :)
