Rear diff pan leak

Hi
when replacing the rear diff pan on a 200tdi Disco can it be do with out
removing the axle.
any advice welcome on how to go about the job

It could be done with the axle in place, but you'd have to take
the diff out and make absoultely certain that no detrius remained
in the axle case.
