Hi, need a new rear crossmember as mine has totally rusted thru! (managed to put a plastic handle of a brush through it :(). Have heard bad things about britpart replacments, but £300 for a devon "heavy duty" one seems a bit steep, though the truck does do a lot of off roading, anyone got any advice on where to get a decent one from at a reasonable price?? cheers

if you off road it alot then i would personally fabricate a custom one which solves alot of the problems the normal ones have. or have someone else make one. £300 is alot of money!

The britpart ones are flimsy and don't fit. I had a bearmach one which fit better but was still flimsy. If you do any serious towing or recovery off road make one out of some proper steel.

i have just done my rear cross member on my 110. i too thought that the prices were very high and so chose to fabricate my own. a local steel work company bent up a piece of 3mm sheet into the basic U channel and then i went from there. they charged me £25 which included a rumage around in their scrap bin for all the other bits i needed... it too me around six hours to fabricate including welding it to the back of the 110. i chose to completely remive the tub and am glad i did as it made things alot easier - obviously the fuel tank had to come off aswell (empty it before you unbolt it - very heavy otherwise especially if you're sat underneath it..!). my only word of warning with this approach is that the five tabs which connect the tub to the x-member should be bolted to the tub and then welded to the x-member otherwise you may have a job matching them up... good luck.

LAND ROVER 110 REAR CROSSMEMBER WITH EXTENSIONS on eBay (end time 20-Feb-10 13:23:37 GMT)

where they supplied & fitted it for about £350

They posted a thread asking us to comment on the quality of the welding. Or perhaps it was another forum?
Yes..it was me.
Will need to Hammerite the back and waxoyle once weather improves. This is a 3mm 'heavy duty' the standard replacement is 2mm. But if you are trying to rip off your xmember off roading and trying to pull extreme stuff then I don't know if its the right one for you. It is fine for sensible stuff.
