REAR CROSSMEMBER REPLACEMENT TD5 - REAR FLOOR REMOVE?

Thanks to all those who responded to my previous post on where to obtain a new rear crossmember for a TD5.
As in my original post the majority of my chassis is good so I really only need the rear crossmember section with short extensions. From what I can see this will make it almost impossible to weld over the top of the chassis and I am wondering if it is a lot easier generally to remove the floor in the rear tub to get access? This would appear to help with both cutting off the old crossmember and installing the new

Anybody got any experience of doing this for crossmember replacement?
 
I reckon it would certainly make life easier, Guess it would depend on just how far forwards the rot goes?
