I would like to attach a recovery point to my rear crossmember. I need to know what size bolts I need to attach to the four threaded holes in the centre and/or the two larger lower ones. Any help appreciated! Thanks

Have you got pic?
I didnt realise they were threaded?
I cant look at mine as I cut it off for a new h/d one.

is that really a good place to put a recovery point ?

I thought the idea was to mount your recovery points inline with teh chassis legs or even on them IE approved jate rings in the tie down holes or braced Weld in eyes inline withe the chassis legs to direct the pull into the right areas of the chassis ?

Have seen tow balls ripped out of those threaded holes on the crossmember by complete idiots.

You will need a spreader plate on the back of the crossmember to take the strain, ideally 8-10mm steel. Bolts on their own will not take the strain, and may pull through - you don't want to be around when that happens

There are six inserts down the rear face of a td5 crossmember tapped m16. To add a note of caution to those above, an adjustable height tow bracket uses 4 of the 6 holes plus two m10 bolts under the crossmember plus also two straps back to the chassis legs with an m16 bolt in each

Thanks for the replies so far. Mine is a 1990 defender 90, but I know the crossmember has been replaced, possibly with a later version. Am in the process of getting a backing plate made up.
