Hi, just wanted to share a good experience with you all or anyone thinking of changing a rear cross member on your Landy.
I have a 1990, 110 Defender which needed to have the rear x member replaced.
I searched several places and entered a thread on here to try and find some recommendations.
Slomfo: sent a reply suggesting I check out mibcomponents.com
My initial inquiry was should I go for a cross member with the extension legs or the cheaper short one. All the replies I received suggested going for the one with the extension legs as they were easier to fit and stronger once fitted. Looking at my problem in more detail I decided to get the job done rather than do it myself.
After carrying out a price comparison mibcomponents seemed to be the one I should go for. I managed to work it so that my Landy would be repaired on the Saturday and I could visit Billing on the Sunday which justified my trip over from France.
I dropped the Landy in at 08:30. Ian gave me a lift into town where I spent the day shopping. I actually enjoyed the day. Managed to get my eyes tested and bought a new pair of glasses. At 16:15 Ian collected me and took me back to the garage where the father was just putting the finishing touches.
I now have a 3mm thickness nice new shinny X member.
The business is a warm family run affair. I could have spent the day chatting with them all.
At Billing the next day several other Landy people I met there had a good look at the job and gave the thumbs up for a great job well done.
If you are looking to get your cross member done give them a call, I don't think you will be disappointed. The Cross members are fabricated there and appear very well constructed. Price wise they compete with places like Paddock except MIB's are 3mm where as Paddocks or most of the others were only 2mm. My thanks to SLomfo who passed MIB onto me.

Sorry to pee on your fire, but i just had mine done. The bloke has ad's running on ebay under 177flump. 6mm thick with 4mm plate onthe legs & your not going to beat it at £160 all in. All made in his workshop.

It weighted about the same as the original as it's made into a c section. It maybe overkill but it won't ever bend.

Parked next to Mike(?) at Billing and can confirm it was a very nice job. The crossmember was certainly well made and had all the normal holes stamped into it making it look completely OE but the additional thickness of the metal was evident if you looked hard. No corners were taken with the fitting and if you don't do welding yourself you want to know that the person who does it for you has done the best job possible, especially if you have just driven up from the depths of France to get it done!

Hope you made it back in time to get to work this morning Mike?:)

Hi Litch, what a small world. Yes, I did make it back in time for work thanks. I got home at 02:00 UK time. 03:00 French time. It poured down most of the way till I was about 100 miles from home.
If every you are venturing down this way do let me know, Would be nice to meet up again or maybe at Peterborough.
Regards
Mike

I'd agree that 6mm is over the top but that's what he was selling.
I think he's going to go out of buiness if he keeps selling them at that price but I'm not going to tell him.

Hi Give Ian a call, it depends if you have a 110 or a 90. His number is 0926 258893

That's 01926 258893!

Glad the recommendation found you a good result - you should see the flex suspension kit Ian fitted to my 90, impressive!

Cheers

think you need heavy duty springs with that

Would that not make 6mm, just a tad overkill?
Hi there its me who makes and fits the x members(and cages rods and everything else!)
The idea of 6mm plate is that its totally self supporting therefore needs no structure as such which means no rust traps and strong support for bolt on bits
