the rear cross member on the end of chassis rails has got a lot of rott on the offside and has become a hole above the mounting point is this a mot failure and if so is it a big job. craddocks do the cross member for £119. any advice needed as mot up in three weeks. thanks jj

hi jay, if the mounting as rotted you can get replacement instead of a full crossmember. most places sell these. i even spotted them on ebay with a longer welding edge to make the job easier and yes its a mot failure.

Yes it's an easy job if you can weld. when you take the bumper off you'll probably find it's worse than you thought it was. Go for the full crossmember. but don't cut anything until it arrives. I'd lift then carpet and check the floor as well especially under the rear seats. as you'll need to remove the carpets anyway to weld the crossmember. Also if it's a petrol you'll need to remove the tank. and make sure you cover everything up in side the disco when using a grinders as those sparks get everywhere.
