Disco 1 Rear Chassis repairs

Maybe this is the best place to ask questions regarding repairing rear chassis on my D1

OK I need to do some welding to the mountings where the large round X member joins the chassis rails.

How far can I jack up the chassis at the rear with all of the body mounts removed.
Aware that will have to disconnect the gear selectors and wiring.
Fuel tank is out, rear brakes are all disconnected, dampers are off, no rear floor in place, tow hitch is off.
I need to take the rear axle out as it needs painting and bushes.

Any help appreciated.

If it was me I would remove the body completely, yes it’s more work initially but then you can sort out the chassis with no problems,
Likewise the chassis is rollable and sorting out the axle also wouldn’t be a problem,
Your biggest problem is getting it hoisted safely at a height that allows you to move the chassis,

I have last year discussed lifting the body of completely and yes that is the best way, I found it difficult finding a method to do it, shortage of space on my drive was one problem.
I have found some DIY plans to construct a frame that can lift the body up around a metre, I think this maybe the best way forward.
As you said completely lifting it would mean I can access more areas and getting more fixed/ treated

Update 25/03/2021
LPG gas tanks are removed, a bit fiddly but they came out no problem.
The frame to hold the tanks in is a proper job - I will upload pics.
Also got the bars off for the tow bar, the bolts need to come out next, been told these can be trouble some.

Not much else to disconnect at the rear, big stuff - axle, bars, brake calipers and the body mounts

Hi just watched your video, I have done one similar to this at the back

Frostythor, thanks for the input - great ideas, the floor in general is very solid so putting an angled joddled piece in would be great. I bought the flat floor panels but I will use these to make the angle pieces.
Taking that rear seat panel out is a great idea to be honest, its great to have 2nd pair of eyes and think sideways.
Really appreciate the advice and input
I won't have to lift the body which will save a lot of hassle.

The most important thing is not to do to big a section, make any repaired section manageable, you can invest in a hand joddler , small beads roller is more expensive £150+, but there are a couple of used ones on ebay

I have a Joddler but I will have a look out for a bead roller, thanks
