Silly problem here but very irritating. A couple of days ago a folded down the rear double seat (2005 td4) to load some stuff and now when I want to lift it, the bloody seat won't come up because the central seat belt seems to have locked. No amount of fiddling, easing, swearing and thumping seems to help. The seat belt is simply holding the seat folded down.
Any ideas before I take the thing into the garage so they can happily enlarge the damn car's service record (one year = spitting aircon, burnt out battery cable, broken clutch pedal, now this....)
I've taken off the plastic cover that goes over the seat belt winder mechanism but no luck or inspiration arose.
 :D

Sadsack wtf av yer done???

The seatbelts is mounted "to" the seats !!

So i can ony deduce that yer had the seatbelt fastened and then dropped the seat forward,
Like the vicar says yer inertia reel has locked cos it thinks the cars stood on its nose, :D
Dunno how yer gunner ger outa that one mate :p ;)
have yer tried jumpin on the seat back, see if you can get a bit o slack ont belt and undo the buckle

Think the reverand is right. It just stuck. Oh well, off to my favourite landrover garage tomorrow morning. I'll take advantage of the trip to see if they've got a discovery worth changing the freething for.

what about finding a nice steep slope to drive the front up onto, and then trying to tap the unit so the inertia reel weights release ? If that doesn't work try reversing up. Then try sideways. The inertia reel has little weights on kind of a fly wheel, which fly out when the reel is pulled quickly and lock the reel and therefore the seatbelt. However, if the unit is off level, the weights move out, and are more easily engaged, even when the seatbelt isn't being pulled.

If nothing else, it will let you check your hill descent control !

Did you ever bang the rear seat? Happened to mine as I dropped the seat. There is nothing you can do but replece the seat belt and it is very hard to take off the seat cover to replace the belt. As it happened, I have or maybe the only one with 4 seat 5 doors freelander as there is no seat belt for the middle seat.

Well, the seat belt is going to be replaced. I have the sensation for the moment (i.e while the warranty lasts) that I'm funding a fairly profitable relationship between my dealer and the Landrover parts service. In 9 months, they've replaced turbo pipes, airconditioning sensors, battery cables, cluth pedal mechanism, and now seat belt...
Do you guys think that with this service record I'm going to be able to get a third year free warranty? (Cos they're not going to change the car, right?:D )

anyone knows how to release rear of cushion cover from frame? i am trying to replace the rear seat belt

you can actually just unbolt the entire seat belt from the car and spend hours fiddling with it in the comfort of your nice warm house and it will eventually release. Also If you are careful you can actually strip down the seat belt unit and release it mnually but when you replace it in the car it will still have a habit of sticking and the process will need to be repeated often probably easier all round to replace it.
