Hi I have a 110 defender and the salisbury diff is completely stuffed. I have been told that i can replace the complete axle with one from a discovery; asking as i cant find a replacement salisbury cheap enough. Any advice on this exchange?

Hello and welcome.

I would advise against the Discovery axle on a 110 as the axle isn't rated for the weight of a 110, you could try and source a later Rover type 110 rear axle as fitted Td5 >

thanks for that, are they not rated for the same towing capacity though ?

Towing yes but laden vehicle no, gross vehicle weight for a 110 is 4100kgs in some regions with the Salisbury and 3500kgs most everywhere else, gross vehicle weight for a Discovery is 2720 Kgs on a rover axle which is quite a drop as your kerb weight will be roughly 2100kgs which would give you a vastly reduced load capacity in the vehicle and a reduced gross train weight too.
