Hello all.

Has anybody got any tips on how to do the rear axle oil seal on a 2001 TD5,
I'm led to believe you need a special tool from Land Rover, am I correct or have I been misled.
Thanks in advance.

The Haynes Manual saysi ts Land Rover Special Tool LRT-51-009 used to extract the centralising peg from the flange. Not sure if you can buy these - ebay or Land Rover. otherwise it looks like a straightforward job from the Haynes Manual - I've not done one myself.

The centralising peg is a push fit and pretty tight. There is a threaded hole in the middle (M8 I think). You can should be able to make upsome sort of puller to get it out. Slide hammer might work. Bit of heat always helps and if your changing the seal, then you won't be damaging anything. Once the peg is out , undo the nut, pull the coupling off and lever the old seal out. New seal and back together. Not too difficult.

apart from the bearing and the metal structure of the pinion its self.......

Chaps, I need to tackle this job in a few weeks time. Does anyone that has done this before have any pistures to help visualise some of the components mentioned? That would be agreat help before I tackle this.
