Rear aircon pipe blanking - Is it possible?

I had my aircon recharged a couple of months back and after a few weeks the situation was back to as it was before the charge i.e. no cool air from system.
I took it back to the (very good and independant) aircon speciists for a diagnosis and they tell me that the pipe to the rear aircon unit which I'm (un?)lucky to have is corroded and needs replacing. The price of a new pipe is £270 (inc vat) + two hours labour which is going to push it to almost £400 which is about £100 out of my comfort zone when it comes to non-vital repairs.

What I would liek to know is wether it is possible to disconnect and blank off the rear aircon pipe from the main system as this may be a more cost effective option rather than the expensive alternative.
I like air conditioning in a vehicle and as the sunroofs had been sealed by a previous owner we do need a way to keep the temp down on hot days so I would really like to get some way to cool down the interior that does not cost almost £400!

I would think so, just cut and cap the two pipes the the rear evaporator and isolate the 12v supply to the blower motor, then re gas to suit..

Easier to "repair" the pipe I would have thought.

Had a word with the aircon people and they basically said what you did. Isolate the rear system and jobs a good-un. It's already booked in for next week. A few hours labout is better than the cost of the pipe alone
My kids do enjoy having the rear blower working though so is it possible to keep that as a 'fan' I wonder?

Hi. I would have replaced the part of the pipe that's damaged, anyway, u can keep the fan if u wish to circulate the cool air, the front system is quite capable of cooling and de humidifying the cab of a disco in the UK.

Well, they're going to take a good look to see what can be done. If the pipe can be patched in anyway they will give it a bash howerver, the fall-back is to isolate the rear aircon components.
I'll be interesting to see what they can do either way

Hi i have the same issue. All the places ive contacted have said they cant fix it. Going travelling over europe in the summer and need air con. Did they sort it for you? If possible could you let me know who you used. Thanks matt
