Rear air bags help and advice

Started to change rear bags this morning clips out pipe out bottom of bag out BUT the top the top is stuck solid. I know this has happened to others on here and would be grateful for any tips and advice. Have got the top sprayed with releaser (proper stuff not wd40). My trouble is I have arthritis in hips and left knee so being down on floor is painful for me (had to take 2 codeine already)

For me it was a case of driving the bag away with a bloody big chisel and a crowbar. Hammered the chisel in between top of bag and bodywork, This didn't move the bag so got the crowbar in as well. It did let go all of a sudden. Just make sure you clean up the recess before refitting new bag. I would spray some hammerite to stop the rust.

Many thanks wasn't sure if it was ok to drive chisels and drifts in. Will try again tomorrow, in too much pain now. We will overcometh as the saying goes

When I did mine, I re-purposed an old 4" paint roller handle into a hook.

If it’s a pin I would tie onto it and yank it on something, like when you pull a tooth out with a bit of string on the handle and slam the door

Mine were so rusty that a chisel and a pry bar sheared what was left of the pin , as posted, clean up the locating hole .

Yes my pins snapped too. I manage to knock them out by grabbing the last remnant of the pin sticking out with a pair of long handled nose pliers and a hammer.

Its ok to lever the top of the bag against the chassis using a crowbar. Just make sure you are working the top of the bag rather that the seating

Hi guys cheers for the feedback , have had to put the job on hold for a while. I mentioned had to take a brake due to pain well this turned into full blown arthritis attack couldn't move by teatime then the old ticker threw a wobbly, ended up in acute medical unit at Rotherham hospital on morphine for the weekend. Back home now feeling better but the flack from the family for attempting the job in the first place wow. Wife going to pay for my local indy to do the job and me to sit on my arse and not to budge.
I know that Landy Rovers can be a pain in the backside at times but this went a bit too far. Ah well all part of the P38 owners club I suppose

Jesus wept, that's extreme landrover ownership!! I hope your getting better.... Take the time to reflect on things.... The front airbags for example?

can imagine how you feel, not the same having someone do a job you want to do yourself (and betterer). It’s Part of the experience and one reason you ended up here

Think of it this way, if you do yourself in crawling under there in the rain, who will sort the P38?!? It needs you to be well and so do we

Good news a great pal of mine who is both a mechanic and a land rover nut has offered to do the air bags for me so all should be well.
Cheers for all your comments and I don't mind any ribbing as you have to look on the bright side these days.

Great news air bags replaced. Waiting for my mate was like waiting for paint to dry. I have a fantastic neighbour who came over this morning side OK show me what to do , he sat me on a chair pointing here and there and 1hr 15mins later the old girl was back on air. He absolutely loved doing the job and now wants to do the front ones (who am I to stop him) Wouldn't take any money for doing it but did give in when I gave him a case of stella. Now that is what you call a good neighbour, 3 cheers for this guy.
