Sounds about right to me, if you look into the inlet end of the turbo, you
will probably find that the compressor fan has been touching the casing
somewhere, which is what makes the screaming noise. Stars off just doing it
when cold, then all the time, then pop.

You should be able to get one for less than that, last time I bought a turbo
it was about £300 (was about 5 years ago though!)

Simon Hi,

if your TD5 is out of warranty I would suggest you contant a turbocharger
repairs specialist instead of forking out your money to Land Rover.
With the sort of money LR is asking you can replace your damaged
turbocharger with a hybrid one with ball bearing instead of plain bearing
(unless the TD5 already uses a turbocharger with ball bearing).
Or you can repair your damaged turbocharger for much less.

Since you will be doing all this I would also suggest you consider fitting
silicone hoses (they are much stronger then the standard LR items, look
better and have a longer operating life, being more sturdy and less
vulnerable to heat and oil)

Finally a larger intercooler may be a good idea also.

800 pounds definately buys you a larger intercooler and a better or repaired
turbocharger from one of the tuning specialists.

Take care
Pantelis
