Re-spray

Hi everyone,
Have'nt had my M reg 110 Defender long but as it has spent a lot of it's time in Egypt and the paint work is looking faded I am playing with the idea of a full re-spray.

If anyone could give me an idea of cost it would be appreciated.

I got quoted £600 when I enquired about one.

disco, does that include everything? like prep and stripping old paint etc. my 90 was originally blue, then red... and now green. but i think its been D.I.Y.ed so the paint comes off in places when i wash it... i am also thinking of getting a respray.

Or are you just after floggin yer ollidy apartment

600 quid is the same average price around here. it seems thats for a quickie job. no major repairs and no major stripping off old paint.

a major job will cost approx twice the above price. and more.

color changes on cars are always a bad idea. try and keep the same as per original, if possible.
some color changes are a disaster. ie white on top of red. the red can bleed thro.

thanks ormus. i would like a proper job. but not at over £1000 i would also like a white 90 sadly not over my green one. i will end up with a lime land rover i will just have to sell mine and buy another!

you can safely paint over a green one with any colour including white without the old paint bleeding through, the only colours that bleed through are anything with red in them. dont ask me why cos i dont know, it just does

aye, red is the problem color.
moral? dont buy a red car.

color changes look crap unless you paint the whole car including the insides etc..
door shuts in a different color look really naff.

That was a basic rub down and full respray with me doing any repairs before hand.

Im wanting a respray on my 90, i'll definately want it doing right, so it'll prolly cost over a grand. Go look at the painters work, his processes and such. Remember that landy's have lots of corrosion problems - you dont want them doing a 'blowing over' as after one winter the rust can start to show through,

Ere, I wonder if that S.B LANDROVERS do any spraying aswell as competitive high quality Landrover maintanance at very good prices?

They're in the other room, probably slaggin me off!

well over a grand at the bodyshop that i work in from time to time. bodyshops are to use water based paint now instead of the old 2 pack which is why resprays seem to cost so much more now. a few bodyshops are still on the old system but not for long.......****in environmentalists! i've done a couple of resprays with dulux (i **** you not) and they've turned out great. always shiney and quite thick too.

definatley. the hassle the 2 paint sprayers are having with this water based **** is unreal. terrible colour matches is the biggest problem. lots of jobs having to be done again which ****es the boss off no end because of the price of this stuff. i painted my range rover with 2 pack fleet paint by standox. it seems alot easier to get a good finish with.

Thanks for the help and advice, I don't want to change the colour (Blue) and yes there is some corrosion that needs to be sorted first, but it will be nice to get it to it's original state (Probably have to do some carboot sales or something to pay for it though)
