Does re mapping actually make a big difference or a big enough difference to warrant spending 150 quid on it?

disco 300tdi and its manual, im new to all this and that mate can get it done cheap so if I was going to benifit from it I would of done it.

300 TDI manuals are mechanical fuel pumps. No electricary controlling the fueling into the engine. You can adjust the fueling screw, don't ask me how I play with V8's. Auto's have a ecu fuel pump that may be able to be remapped. Any mechanic that has been about more than 10 year's should know what to do. Freelander D2 and P38 and defender TD5 and newer are all ecu controlled, all older are not.

mechanical fuel injected engine, not electric in anyway other than a stop solenoid.

So, as others have tried to inform you, you cannot remap your engine. it doesn't have a map, it does have a mechanical pump which can be adjusted, but also you'll need to alter the boost and idle to compensate. it won't be better on fuel.

leave it as it is :)
