Anyone done it?

My D2 GS will require this in the future, just wondering what would be a good idea to replace or UPGRADE while the motor is in a million pieces?

She's an old Bus that will stay for a good while, as she does everything I want really well + i've always fancied a D2 in all honesty ;)

Appen' this one is a tad crusty in places, not holed yet but being rusty the entire length makes welding a bit counter productive as, how much do you cut out? lol ;)

Also there seems to be a few Chassis manufacturers?

Shield and Richards are among the 2 i've heard of?

Either any good for fitment? I've heard horror stories of some chassis being down right wrong?

Regards H

Just an old TD5 GS ;)

Richards are supposed to be better but can be difficult to get, Shielder are cheaper and more available.

Is the body ok? They do go eventually. Top of screen is a place they often start going. I would take all the sill trim, arches and carpets out before you commit. Plus you could also get away with rubbing chassis down in situ, patching, treating in rust converter then painting and dinitrol. It would cost £500 to £1000 in a good garage to do but is cheaper than a new chassis.

+^ I can see from looking at the pics that you do have a particularly nice one. If it has led an easy life then maybe underneath is not all that bad. But £3K for a chassis is really about what the whole vehicle is worth, to say nothing of the cost of fitting one. So If you love it that much, then probably nothing will stop you! But, while the body is off I'd deffo take all advice about seeing to the rest of it and getting all welding and metalwork done. I'd cross my fingers and hope that all it really needs is some patching and treating.
Best of luck anyway.
