rat in a trap

We have a stream at the end of our garden and also keep chickens, so Rats or Mice are guaranteed!

What bate to use

Mouse:
Apple Jazz or Cox yes they are that fussy!!
Chicken pellets

Rat:
Peanut butter (once you've done all the black parts on your car)
Nutella
Chocolate

or leave Pepsi or Coke in bowls - they will drink this and as they can't burp will die, another one is mix plaster of paris powder with corn as this will set solid inside them. The only problem with this is you have no idea where they will die!! and a dead mouse or rat under your shed will get a bit whiffy!!

Here is one of my more unlucky ones, caught by one trap, bounced off and set another one off lol

I might try the coke thing... interesting.

I dont like traps as I tend to catch birds in them.. I have been using some poison from France which is litle sachets of chocolate type substance which kills them but it just keeps getting taken, and taken and taken so I dont think its working, or I am feeding the 5000 with it and I agree with the (where the hell are they dying query)... a glass of PEPSI would be easier/cheaper.

Traps should only be places in tight areas - behind sheds etc, where no bird would go?!

I can't use poison as my chickens would eat it :-( but I also need to be careful where I place traps, you don’t want to find a chickens foot in one lol

Last resort

.22 + scope and spotting lamp

This is good fun :) but I have to be careful as chickens get spooked easily and although a I have a silencer fitted a pellet hitting the shed while they are sleeping will do just that!!

All of my traps were in closed areas, against walls, under benches etc... the lil robin was a nosey one :( Birds go everywhere..

Our chickens dont touch the poison.

OMG chickens are stupid, I once caught ours eating polystyrene???

On the rare occasion we've had mice over the years I always leave some food in a place they would have to run through. A bit of chocolate on a piece of digestive biscuit.
On the third night dinner is put on a trap.

Gets them every time.

They are taking the sachets back under ground to there nesting site, it is working about 7-10 days to get the whole colony.

But traps behind a board along side the building then birds can not get in trap
