Rangey wont stop running

Just got me rr running for the first time well was a rr now got landy body on her with 3.9 su carbs. Fired it up last night set the timing got it ticking over nice, revved the arse off it throttle stuck open and wouldnt switch off from the key so i pulled main feed ht lead off and nearly blew me arm off (wont do that again). Iv fitted a new coil and was told to run a positive feed to the starter motor live is this correct dont seem right to me?

The positive side of the coil should go to an ignition live. If you've connected it to the main starter wire that goes direct to the battery and you wont be able to switch it off. On a ballast resistor coil set up you can run a extra live from the starer solonoid wire to give youre coil a full 12v supply to aid starting
