Hi, i am having a major problem with my 1996 4.6 litre gems engine. I was going to work a few weeks ago and had to slow down as i slowed down the Engine stalled (it's a auto) and will not restart. I have changed the plugs changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump, the coil packs and the crankshaft position sensor. I am now at a loss as to what else to try when i try to start it, it tries to start but just wont fire any cylinders. Any pointers would be very helpful and thanks in advance alex

I know you changed plugs & coils, but did you change the leads too? They can and do break down over time and cause issues. However, have you checked for good fuel pressure? The in tank pump can let go and cause similar issues to yours.

There is loads of fuel pressure at the shrader valve, i haven't renewed the leads as they look good still and are not arcing out when you crank it in the dark

Next check would be the injectors. I believe the connections can suffer causing mayhem.

Oh **** sakes, didn't think you were going to ask questions......ermmmm,.

I only glance at P38s parked at Hamish's, I don't know them personally!

I had thought about the earth, but don't know where the car is earthed to can you point me in the right direction please

Battery neg to body and then to engine.

What to try is a jump lead (black one) onto neg terminal and onto the engine somewhere clean.

If she starts, it 's an earth fault.

Used him once, obliging guy but failed to remove himself from from his computery comfort blanket, so I took it to that fella on Seafield Rd who immediately traced the misfire to a bent injector pin.....
All this just after I'd done the rocker gaskets, the injector wiring boxes can allegedly be wrenched off and forced on again (on paper);)
EDIT: This was an under pressure day, guy flying up from the county of Engerland to purchase and fookin thing misbehaves.
He flew home:(

No didn't plug it in, but nothing showing on my obd code reader, but i dont have access to test book or faultmate

I have been mulling this over. If it's getting a good strong spark, air is sucked in so that should be fine (unless you live in a vacuum :p ) so it brings me beck to the fuel or fuel pressure or injectors... Now if the injector electrical connections were at all poor, the car wouldn't simply have ground to a halt, but rather spluttered & misfired long before hand.

I still think it is likely to be a fuel pressure problem....
