Hi there, I have a 2006 Range Rover Sport 2.7tdv6. I think I have a problem with one of my injectors . Could anyone please tell me, other than running diagnostics, is there any way I can check. Thanks everyone . Andy.

Hi

May i ask why do u think it’s an injector , what faults does it have please, ie , is it at tickover , motorway speeds, any smoke

Alas though due to the complexity of these engines a diagnostic reader that can also provide live data go hand in hand

Can of course check basic things first , but if u don’t mind being a bit more specific plse it may or may not point of where to look first

Plus is it an auto/ manual , mileage , when it was last serviced plse

Cheers

Hi, thank you for your reply. It's an auto with 130000 miles on the clock. It has very erratic tickler, loss of power and lots of blackish smoke. It was also going into limp mode if you put your foot down. I have checked the intercooler hose and can't see any damage, although there is a kind of film of oil on it. I did have an injector go on me last year, with similar symptoms.
Many thanks Andy

Hi freelance, someone else told me that, so I blanked them off and removed the pipes. Couldn't believe how dirty they were. Alas, this has made no difference at all.

Hi andy

Plus one what @freelance has mentioned , however are u aware of the new mot regs, because you’ve removed the egr pipes that’s an instant fail, I blanked mine but left the pipes in situ , got the thin blanking plate and located it between the pipe and engine block, can’t be seen

May i ask plse, when u done the egr blank did u also remove the butterfly valve inside the throttle body , also removed and carefully cleaned ur MAP sensor

If that’s all ok and it goes into limp mode when booting it, particularly up a hill, will more than likely be the turbos actuator arm sticking , also , intercooler hose that’s attached to the turbo can come loose , there’s a short one and longer one by the turbo , as u look at the pic u can see a jubilee clip, mine had broke

See how u get on and please let us know how u get on , plus plenty here to always help u

Hi again,
Thank you very much for all this info. I have removed the butterfly and gently cleaned the sensor. I am going to replace the long intercooler hose this week, but I was unaware that there is another one. I will try to locate this later. I am guessing it is awkward to get to. I will take your advice, and refit the egr pipes, leaving the blanking plates in place. Hopefully this will stop all the smoking.
Many thanks
Andy.

Hi andy

Mines a D3 but uses the same running gear as urs

If it’s smoking indeed the favourite one to go is the left hand side one, is the blue one in my pic

There are another 2 x intercooler hoses and indeed abit more difficult to get to , If u look at my pic ur notice a different type of clamp, these are stainless steel and called T bolts , I bought silicone hoses and these clamps work really well

However the left hand side hose u need to use an ordinary jubilee clip for the bottom connection because the intercoolers outlet pipe is shaped oval so the jubilee clip will be best for that bottom outlet , t bolt clamp for the top

Here are the sizes if u go down the silicone intercooler route , also enclosed a pic of the hoses

Link for the clamps

Long hose , fits left hand side , as u look at the engine

1 x 68-73mm
1 x 50-70mm ordinary jubilee clip for bottom of hose as intercooler has an oval shaped connection

medium right hand side

1 x 55-59mm
1 x 68-73mm

small , fits onto the turbo and a sod to fit

1 x 59-63mm
1 x 55-59mm

Hope that gives u a start

If if look at the pic, passenger side , left hand side u will see a clamp, that’s the medium size hose

Rh of the picture u will see a silver heat shield , that’s where the small one is hidden and a @&#&&#&#&#&# to replace

Second pic is where that clamp can become loose of broken, that can cause a limp error , is the horizontal clip, above it is that short hose

To replace either of these u need to remove the plastic wheel arch liner

Easiest one is normally the one that’s splits , can’t always see a split until u remove it

That looks bleeding awful to work on

Not really , just takes abit longer to work out how to work on things , seen worse , lol

However I done my first wishbone replacement and that was #&#&#&@&&@& of a job , needed to because the bushes were worn out

Hardest bit is getting the bolts out as they rust solid inside the metal collars of the bushes

But saved a lot of money , dealer wanted in excess of 1k to do the job, cost me £250

They don't build them like they used too..

I hoping the new bushes will last around 50,000 miles , lol

Still makes me think when I had my series and how easy it was to work on

The sins of wanting some comfort I suppose, lmao

Bloddy hell

U like that then , lol

Not as bad as it looks , if the bolts had been coppaslipped and come out it would have been a far easier job , plus a D3 weigh nearly 3 x ton , sport bushes are harder and last longer ,

Normally when the bushes go people fit the RRS sport bushes on the D3 but give a harder ride

Nice one Gary, despite grazed knuckles a most satisfying job I’d say, especially saving 750 squid. :)

Thks, thought it would never end trying to cut the bolts , also know I couldn’t afford to put mine in the garage every time it needed something

In the 2 x years I’ve had it I must have saved at least 4K by doing all the work myself

Im moving closer to your house. I'd have moved closer to @holidaychicken but it would have cost me more than £4k in dresses, high heels and gaffer tape, so false economy ;)
