Found a few on the bay but should i check anything else for the cause of failure before i purchase???

Most likely thing to cause the diff to fail is the VCU seizing, I would have thought. Think the front one tends to go first though in that instance. Never had it myself so uncertain. Also, the rear driveshafts are glued into the hubs. When the Loctite glue fails you get a click as you change from forward to reverse or the other way around. The click isn't loud, you need the windows down to hear it. Any kind of play cannot be good for the drivetrain in my mind so I'd check that. Other than that I suspect you were just unlucky. Change the fluid in the diffs regularly and it should be OK.
 
So,the replacement rear differential is on its way from the bay,my mechanic is a tad hashy bashy
Simple out/in or other things that must be done during replacement???
