Have you got an alternator fault after all the power steering oil covering the engine bay? My rev counter dropped to zero and I got an alternator fault warning on the dash. Changed the alternator and all good.
Good point Alan, if there was a lot of oil about, it might just be the belt slipping which would cause the rev counter to drop.
Just on the instrument dial
No alternator fault it seems like a leccy issue but its just the rev counter that plays up
personally I would take the alternator off and give it a good cleaning,even just to eliminate the possibility.
The rev counter is driven off the alternator, if the belt slips the rev counter will drop.
Would this only be shown on the rev counter because there doesnt seem to be and change of revs for the engine.
Quite possibly.
