Range Rover p38 subwoofer issue

Hello

I have a 2001 Range rover recently the subwoofer has started making a distorted horrible noise when the bass kicks in to get round this i have had to turn it down on the head unit which indicates this been faulty. The part number of the sub is XQA100070 they are £500 new and a bit wary having a used incase it has the same issue. has anyone fitted new speakers to there subwoofer and what where they running off the original amp. also what size are the speakers?

Have you checked the speakers are ok? If the suspension rings have started to fall apart it will sound bad. Easily replaceable

What size are the speakers ? are they rubber suppression rings ?

The foam trying that attaches the cone to the surround. I think they are 6 inch

Foam, it's more flexible. Cheaper too

When I did mine, pretty sure I used 6".
Get the tape measure out then you're sure

do you have to get the sub out to measure or can it be done when its fitted ?

Just take the panel off, it's right there in the boot

You can see I’ve the speakers are knackerd or not when you remove the panel

When i did mine ,,, I bought two 6.5" with glue from..... horizon airsoft on ebay £10 pound odds ,other sellers are available...

Toilet paper and inner tube glue.
A coat of glue then paper and glue again. Then when all dry do a second coat in 1" squares. Works really well
Did both my son's and my own subs.
A pair of Marantz speakers and a 4x12" guitar cab.

Along with pasta in the sub cabinet for extra crunch and distortion

I used a pair of these eBay bass speakers. Works fine.

They are niiice

The eBay link has disappeared. I know they are 165mm and 4 ohm... I don't understand how power works for speakers. The original drive units are completely devoid of clues. Anyone?

It's a XQA100070, btw.
