I've looking for a replacement engine for my P38 diesel (Xreg 2000). I've been told my engine will not be salvageable.
I embarked on a 250 mile journey with an oil leak (unbeknownst to me) , my first inclination that something was wrong was when the oil light came on while doing 70mph on the motorway and it stopped working? :-(
I added a gallon of oil and the engine turns but wont start, sounded lumpy but nothing knocked.
First question I have :
Could the timing have jumped?
Would this have done the valves?
I've been told its too costly to strip and rebuild?
Does anyone have an engine?
Thanks
Dave

Oooh ship!! Did you check your oil before taking the journey?
If it was leaking that bad it'll left a sizable trace under itself!!!
Very good questions as to how damaged it is... The only real way to find out is to have it part stripped and checked. Unfortunately that costs unless you çan do it yourself ;)

Not just the V8's that leak then!

Mind you mine only leaks ATF out the gearbox input shaft seal ;)

Once the oil pressure light is on, it's usually too late..

No, just V8's... With new airbags:p

You might be lucky and find it's just the main bearings and crank shaft, might be possible to regrind and fit oversize shells, I don't know.
The cylinder head is most likely OK and would fetch about £500 on Ebay or you could give it to me, it would fit nicely on th M51 I have with a cracked head:cool:
