range rover p38 4.6 1996

hi, i need a bit of help with my range rover its an auto. I need to replace the fly wheel on my car as a lot of the metal prongs are bent. can anyone give me a definative guide on how to do this job pls as i have searched and cant find the sequence of how to do this. many thanks if you can help

Download the workshop manual.

I can only find the. Thor Engine workshop manual and it didn't have the auto box

Have a look in the tech archive top left of range rover page look for Wammers eas guide in there you will find Rave the land rover workshop manual down load that

Auto dont have a flywheel only a torque convertor

Not entirely correct, auto's instead have a flex plate in place of a flywheel. This incorporates the starter ring gear which all vehicles need.
F/plates fatigue with age and can crack.

Yes the flex plate which the torque convertor bolts to carries the ring gear and CPS pickup ring.

& those flex plates on the Auto's fail.

i did this with mine,same year,as,cps hit some,remove inspection plate to belhousing underneath car 4or 5 bolts,you will see prongs with torch,i bent mine back with screwdriver,longnose pliars,and hammer,take spark plugs out and you will be able to turn flywheel,with a spanner on a nut, to get at prongs,make sure their all their,and cps does not hit prongs.you will find one set missing ,for timing,you may need new cps,not expensive,but be sure to fit any spacer that comes off,dont put 2 on,good luck
