please can anyone help, my Range Rover p38 2.5dse p reg, It will drive fine in 1st gear the turbo works fine, same in second, get it in 3rd gear at 2750 revs an the turbo stops an the car looses all power, I’ve just had a new turbo fitted. Could this possibly be the pump in the tank.? On its way out.! Coz it’s the same in 4th an 5..

I have same vehicle. New in tank pump and sender getting fitted tomorrow. Guna put 40L of diesel in and pray it starts and runs.
Otherwise could be ebay with low reserve. As I am self employed new tax year looms, work and wages are scarce
Good luck with yours Pal

Why are you having a new one fitted.? I just can’t understand why the whole engine just looses power.!! You can feel it, if it doesn’t die it will start kangarooing up the road it’s horrible, something proper holding it back..

To be honest, I think mine was okay. I had to remove tank to empty a mixture of none derv fuel out of it. It was damaged in the process. Just hamfistedness. I am pretty new to the restoring p38 scene and finding it difficult.
I bought mine with an EAS Fault, but it actually had a few more faults that were not initially known.
If it starts and runs tomorrow or Wednesday I will be over the moon. Otherwise there'll be a bargain to be had by someone.
FS; 98 p38 diesel manual........

Let me know how you get on, coz my dad lives in Edinburgh he has a few he buys them..! As he loves playing with them, an rebuilding them.

@jay hogg The correct answer is not "tell me and we'll buy it to mess about on"
The correct answer is @S546XOE hang in there. Someone with knowledge will pop their head and with the encouragement, support, helpfulness and information available from the rest of us, you'll get her sorted :) Try searching the threads and getting some names of those on here who might be able to help you. Then tag them into the conversation, the way I just did with you. Oh , and good luck :)

That is what we do here, not try to score a bargain off some poor sod who is struggling!

I’m in the same boat as him, I’m not trying to score a bargain. But I’m sure if he’s willing to let it go as a bargain my dad would like to know..!!

Still out of order.

If your dad likes to play with them , why not ask him for some help/advice for the guy.

Thanks, that is very nice to hear. Gold Rover. The car ran, quite sweetly. Drove considerably well for a car that had sat for three years, hadn't ran for 18 months. I am hopeful, I will do my best to rejuvenate it. I have always wanted a Landy, although a bit rough, it is still my dream car.

Jay Hogg, many thanks too. Edinburgh is not at all far from me either. I may give your Dad a shout.

Like I said have a quick read of p38 threads and suss out the gurus , then tag them in . Usually a solution is found :)

Addit I think @Datatek is back on the scene and is very knowledgeable on the P38
@Saint.V8 is also up there, but may be a tad busy at the moment
@tomcat59alan and @holidaychicken if not tied up or tying up might be of help but I think they are L322
And if you can stand the madness @myfirstl322 can have his moments ;)

Will do, again thanks. I'll install pump, tank connect lines, fill with fuel. Go from there.see were I end up.
I have read a few threads which have maybe got me thinking the problems are larger than my engineering capabilities.
Premature though they are. I'll update you's on Wednesday or shortly thereafter.
much appreciated

I'm not into 322's yet, and maybe never. Had a seizure Saturday and a ride to hospital under blues and two's. cannot drive for 6 months or maybe never depending on tests Thursday.:(
You silly bugger, what did you go do that for? If it's a uniform fetish , I could've loaned Andy mine. Although you might've dodged a bullet, as it means your search for an L322 is off ;)
Take it easy and get well soon.

Back to your question, why was a turbo changed, and have you checked the turbo hoses they have a habit of delaminating inside and blocking up causing power loss and even stalling, when mine went it looked like there was blisters inside.

Or....the little air pipe from the manifold to the map sensor bolted to the side if your fuel filter? Check the pipe ends for cracking, make sure the pipe and the little hole in the manifold pipe fitting isn't blocked. Just a couple of little checks.
How much fuel was in the tank at the time?
I had this the other week, on the reserve light and under enthusiastic throttle it would stutter around 3.000rpm until another 30ltrs went in!!
Air filter?
Fuel filter?
Just a few ideas;)
