Hi I am new to this Forum and hope you can help. I own a RR 1986 3.5 EFI manual it has the Flapper EFI, the motor is in sound condition with good compressions.Just recently when I hit an incline the vehicle loses power and won't rev out. It is running normal on the flat and starts and idles ok.
I had a spare untampered with airflow meter which I changed but made no difference also I have checked the Dizzy out, seemed ok and tried another coil.I can get another ECU to try if need be, any other suggestions before I do this would be greatly appreciated.Cheers Graham ps the RR is at my beach house so won't be doing anything until I visit next month.

You don't say how long you've had the car, so is this a new problem? I've owned four 3.5efi's (all auto's but in top gear the convertor is locked up giving direct drive anyway) & none of them like uphill climbs - 165 horses are not really enough for a two ton car with perm. 4x4 driving through two gearbox's, hence LR's gradual engine capacity increases in later years. Even when you select lower gears (or kick down with the auto's) the lump seems reluctant to rev in standard factory spec. relying mainly on it's torque output.

Ive owned for about 3 years so this is a recent problem, Iknow what you mean aboutnot having power to burn Thanks

Could possibly be a air leak on the intake side eg carb manifold or carb base.
Had this exact symptom on a ford years ago and turned out to be the carb base had warped slightly and air was being sucked directly into the inlet manifold.
