Hi guys,

I’ve got a 2003 4.4 L322 with a air suspension issue. I’ve read through a lot of posts however can’t find anything to help my issue. So the problem is, when I go to raise the suspension the orange light flashes but doesn’t stay constant and as a result the vehicle doesn’t raise. Likewise it wouldn’t lower into access height, only remain at normal height. The compressor wouldn’t make any noise however we’ve put power to it directly and can hear it working.

The only fault codes it showed were;

High pressure exhaust valve fault
High pressure exhaust supply fault
Exhaust valve fault
And there was another about temperature

These were cleared and didn’t come back. On one scan it did say battery low which also was cleared.

My mechanic did some kind of test and it showed the compressor at 113 degrees which he thought is the fault and thinks it’s the compressor.

Right now the the suspension has dropped on all 4 corners and is somewhat a bumpy ride however no lights on dash. There is a noticeable ‘squish’ sound from the front right wheel when going over bumps.

Sorry for the essay guys but what do you think it could be? I don’t want to fork out on a new compressor if that isn’t the actual problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note, twice when playing around with the ‘low’ range button I’ve had the ‘transfer box neutral’ come up and have had to remove the transfer box, spin it and put it back on. Any idea why it’s keep on doing this? Thanks in advance.

Sorry forgot to add, I’ve changed the relay in the boot and checked fuses. Also, I’ve done the lock to lock steering thing but hasn’t made a difference.

Hi as some one else said check bags for leaks , but if compressor has gone a simple test is to disconnect the air line going to the exhaust valve, it's very simple just push it In then it should pull out. Get someone to switch the ignition one without starting the car , the compressor should kick in be very careful with next bit try putting finger over air hose to see if there is any pressure it should be very high about 170psi off the top of my head if you can stop it with your finger the compressor is duff , you then have two options a rebuild kit for about £25 or new compressor about £320 ish a quick search on Ebay will find several suppliers, not 100% but think you have a wabco compressor on there . It should only take about 30 mins to change over. Do not buy cheap Chinese non branded compressor or you will probably be doing the same thing again shortly

Thanks for the replies. I am going to the garage shortly so will inform my mechanic. The bags haven’t been checked, is it straightforward to find leaks? Also would a low or poor battery cause the compressor not to work?

Yes a low battery can throw up all sorts of faults but most of them will be false, obviously charge the battery would recommend using a smart charger normally this can be done over night
