Guys
Had a RR 2008 on 190k miles for about 18months now using it every once and a while to tow the horse, posh night out ect and it been fine until about a week ago.
The missus blew up her daily drive (mini cooper) and has been using the RR as her daily to take our son to school, shopping see the horse ect so no long journeys..
So the missus has an uncanny knack of knowing when something isn't right with her cars and in the last week she has been saying that under acceleration (normal and a bit hard) it's covering the cars behind in black smoke , quite alot apparently ....
So my questions are, is the short journeys clogging it up, therfore needing a long run, or do I need to buy a diagnostic tool to check what's going on
Just a few other things to mention
There are no lights on the dashbord
One key is damaged, the other one works but the buttons are severely worn
Any help will be appreciated

Never a bad idea to have your own Diagnostics.

But I would say your thinking of the short journeys could well be a problem, give it a good run and give it some welly, see how it goes. Won’t hurt it.

good luck.

Yeah I know, I have a nanocom for the D2 but for some reason couldn't bring myself to get one for the range

Is the gap iid still the recommendation

Whilst we are talking on the subject, I put leds in the interior, and of course they are flashing now would the gap iid be able to sort this (I belive there is something in the settings to turn off)

Sorry not been in and looked for that setting, but it’s quiet possible there is a setting for that.

why not just change back to normal bulbs? A lot of mordern cars don’t like cheap LEDs and it seems to play havoc with its brain.

If you do decide to get the Gap
Theres a guy on a disco (3?) forum doing them a bit cheaper. Saves a few quid:) never a bad thing.

Check the intercooler hoses, they frequently blow on the TDV8. "you'd hear it though"

There is a known fault where the Map sensor is showing high boost when there is low boost the engine overfuels causing black smoke.

Also worth noting you NEED diagnostics.

Gap IID.. etc

Also worth checking the hose clip on the flexible pipe for the intake on the right handbank they can come loose allowing in too much air on the wrong side of the MAF sensor.
