I've joined to look at other member's posts regarding suspension faults on Discovery3 and 4 and Range Rover Sport, which I own.
I seem to get an intermittent fault as have other people. My front struts are quite noisy when going over speed bumps etc., so I think they need changing.
I intend to check the heights to see if they drop down overnight as has been suggested elsewhere.
I have changed the compressor for an aftermarket type (Hitachi type) and the pressure it builds seems fine, it gets to 1680kpa which is normal.
I have also cleaned the front and central valve blocks. Haven't done the back one as yet as it's more difficult to get at and the weather hasn't been good enough and no time !!
I would like to remind members that there are 2 types of strut. The cheaper ones which are around £160 (front aftermarket) do not have the electronically controlled dampers. The electronic type which have a wire running from the top of the unit, are considerably more expensive, around £400 (OEM eBay) or more depending on make and nearer £700-800 for genuine parts each. My Range Rover sport 3.0 V6 diesel has this type and they are standard fitments on the petrol 5.0 litre V8 cars normally more common in US. These struts were an option on diesel models.
Hope this helps anyone looking to buy struts. Rear ones are more expensive usually, but last longer than fronts.
