Range Rover dead :( whats it worth?

Well after the brakes gave up last winter, my '90 Vogue SE has been laid up and out of use.
I took it to the the local garage and asked their landrover expert to look at it for me, and he came back with a quote of 750 to get the brakes done, but nearer 1400 to make it road worth again due to a lot of welding on the rear inner arches.
sadly, this pretty much means its the end of road for the old girl, but i really don't want to just scrap it, so is there any market for an MOT failure like mine?

i brought my p38 as a scrapper so yes there will be a market for it. put it on ebay and see what happens or brake it for parts your self. also how is it gunna cost 750 for brakes surly you could do them your self for half that then buy a welder and weld it up your self. nothing is ever not repairable.

They seem like VERY high prices. I would shop around a bit if I were you.

Seriously, get some more quotes, preferably from independent specialists. There's no reason for welding to be that pricey either unless the thing is so rotten that it needs a new back end.

Ps, be a little bit careful - a place I know seems to quote hideously high repair bills to scare the owner into selling the car to them for peanuts as scrap.

sadly i have no money and very very limited experience with welding, and apparently the rot is quite bad.
I'm starting uni this week so wont have much (any) time to get my hands dirty unfortunately

yeah, I am slightly wary of the quoted price, my parents swear by this garage, but a lot of people say they are expensive.
unfortunately, as the car is not driveable, it would mean borrowing a car trailer and roping my folks into carting the thing around to get it to other people to look at.

i'll go there in the week and try and get some pictures of the arches and post them up here for you lot to pass judgement on?

that was my first thought.

those pumps are on ebay cheap, in fact Ive got one which when I sell my classic you can have for what I paid. I never used it its been in the under the stairs cupboard for 2 years lol

the other issue is that the garage does not posses the right diagnostics kit to work with the rangie, apparently you need a wabco one which are not so common any more?
as such a failed ABS pump is just an educated guess (or an assumption?) so it may not even be that.

There you go. Just find yourself a decent garage to fit it - it's not rocket science. It's not even rocket science on a P38 so a Classic should be straightforward.

(Know what you mean about parents' recommendations - seriously - find your own specialist). As for the welding, is it urgent? Someone on here might be able to help.

hey guys, sorry for the late reply. moved into my uni house last weekend and it has no fecking interwebs.
I went back to the garage today and told them I wouldnt be asking them to repair the old girl, and then got some pictures which i will post up here as soon as i can (i would do it now but the laptop to which i can upload pictures is at my uni house, whereas i am writing this from my parents house)

im not sure how bad the rust is, its hard to see the full extent due to the mud inside the arches. I can see that it has rusted through, but the areas of rust arent huge; i would guesstimate about the size of a credit card?

normal rust spots of one of these, if you wanted to bring it to me, remove all the crap and stuff bolted to the areas, cut out and grind the area clear, and cut the plate I am happy to weld it up for you and can provide the equipment you will need and the steel.

I have just had enough of cutting and grinding, but I still like the welding bit lol
