Range Rover Classic restoration project

Hi all,

I have a Range Rover Classic, two door, Shire blue, not a point of rust, engine completely renewed, suspension top condition, and I have just returned from a meeting in Bavaria and noticed how much interest this car has for fans of rustic old timers for travel or transformation.

The problem with selling mine is that the cabin is showing the years of use. I need to replace the ceiling inside, and my seats are worn (normal after 30 years of daily use). The wheels needs some reconditioning too (new tyres fitted, Michelin).

This being said, it is in mint condition and running.

I have seen some people selling in Milan their Classics at a very high price, and frankly not so much using origal parts.

So I wonder if I should remake the inside, and try to sell it at a higher price, or if I should just sell it as it is to someone who wants it.

It sounds lovely if you can sorce an interior do it yourself and make even more money good luck with your decision

Wheels i ended up doing myself after they were sand blasted by grit valve pictures of during and after..







headlining material and glue supplied by martins here Brush Nylon Headlining about £70 inc shipping and a couple of hours of work, there's some good guides on line..

Wheels.. i've never painted before so bought an HVLP spray gun and worked it out !

if it's sound and interior just need redoing.. go for it !!

I have seen a Santana, a Land Rover manufactured in Spain under licence, the guy traveled Africa with it. The complete set, I think a 110 with sleeping tent on top of car.

He dreams of the Classic, does not find it...

The leather seats are lovely on the picture. Unfortunately, mine was the professional version, two doors and seats in kind of tissue. I am looking for new seats, or better ones, of course!

Could you tell me more about the prices of Range Rover Classics, rebuilt, not rebuilt?? I have a new Diesel Engine, VM, runs excellent.

in terms of prices, Classics in need of full restoration seem to be running from £1,000 to £3,000 depending on variant. running/driving ones with rust and refurb needed seem to be running from £3000 to £6000 depending on variant restored ones seem to be anything from £9000 to £45000 and upwards depending on variant.

if i were you, i would be keeping her/him..or if rot free i would try to sell on ebay UK..

i own 2 suffix a 2 doors...they are going up in value each day..people here in the uk regually stop me to ask about them...THEY are wanted..as are all 2 doors
you could always buy a santana, but it will be common..you wont stand out from the crowd anymore..

but re interior..as yours is a late 2 door..parts can be found, (headling, rear seats etc from 70-86 will fit, even up to 94 will fit with some fettling) ..there are companies here who will be able to supply headlining, (though i have just made my own..it looks and feels better than OE,and cost £20..)

if you are going to fully upgrade interior then you must however regard it as a loss, because i do not think it will add much to the value..NO RUST adds value..anyone can, once bought your car do the interior..

Now a question: if those vehicles are so valued (indeed, when I was driving in London, I had a couple of people saying at red light that they really liked it!) we need special insurance? What are your recommendations for insuring those oldies?

I don't know about in France but classic car policies are available in the UK, a standard policy would suffice but you'll need to clarify the value as in the event of a total write-off you don't want them giving you a payout equatable to an old wrecker and not in tune to the actual value
