Hi guys just got a 1990 G reg rangie classic 3.9 efi v8 with abs.
When i get in the brake and abs warning lights are on, but they go out when driving.
The abs pump makes an intermittent whirring noise(the sort you get with a bad electrical connection) for a min or so when you get in then does it on and off for an minute or so every time you touch the brakes when moving.

I've had a look, and when its whiring the braided hose that comes out the abs unit to the abs block is vibrating quite a lot.
There also looks to be fluid weeping out of the hose end at the abs block end.

Does anyone know where I can get this braided hose (i've searched but to no avail) as I think this is probably the problem, yet I drove it 40 miles back like it and the fluid level barely moved, possibly a very minor leak???

For the mean time could I unplug the abs pump just to use it (but with no abs), as the whirring noise sounds like the pump might burn out or something, which could be expensive, or will I loose brakes all togeather,
thanks!!

Hi.

The whirring is the pump trying to maintain pressure in the system. It comes on whenever it needs to. The less fluid in the system the worse the pump sounds.
Tim Fry Landrovers of Cheltenham are who i use (Not A Main Dealer) they have a salvage yard for classics as well as previously owned Landrovers and supply new parts..........Have you checked to make sure that it is the Hose and not the block?

Cheers, Nick.

yea that was my thoughts about the pressure. I did look and it was all pretty wet under there, it was just that hose looked to be weeping, and the underside of the bonnet had a patch of fluid on it like it had been spraying upwards. Are the blocks prone to going? what would I be looking for, split pipes etcc???
cheers
