range rover alternator

hi guys im after a alternator for my p38 diesel and ive had a few people tell me the petrol and diesel ones will fit each other is this true or dont they know what they are talking about ?

Be careful, diesel alternators are sometimes different to their petrol cousins. Output may be different due to the larger battery fitted for starting, I would have thought the mountings could also be different between a V8 and a BMW diesel. I have never seen the alternator from a P38 V8 so can't be sure. Have a look on RAVE.

I believe the Diesel and V8 Alternators are different, BMW, Range Rover and Vauxhall Omega Breakers for S/Hand unit or if you know someone in the motor trade, ask about getting your unit recon'd. A set of bushes or rectifier/regulator is cheaper than a new unit.
