Hi there, I am currently sat on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. When I tried to pull away there was no movement just revs so I am guessing this could be the gearbox. This has only done 87k and is in good condition so I don’t want to get rid of it but can anyone let me know what I should pay for a new gearbox? The breakdown guy said it might just be valves but I’m sure someone on here can give me some advice? The error codes are can communications with transfer case 133 and 55 gear control- fith gear faulty.... any help much appreciated....

It's possible the Transfer box actuator is playing up and the box is in neutral its pretty common for the shift motor potentiometer to play up..

There is a reset procedure..

I'll try and find it.

A small caveat is, if your rotary potentiometer is faulty, there's a small possibility that exercising the shift motor may cause it to get stuck in Neutral or Low Range. The potentiometer voltage is the only feedback that the NV225 transfer box ECU receives to tell it where the shift rail is and therefore what range it is in.

Also worth noting that the transfer box neutral renders the transmission's park lock useless, so make sure your handbrake is on and/or you're on level ground when you're fiddling with Fuse 37.

Thank you and interestingly I just tried something that I read on another thread where you put the pedal to the floor, the key in so the dash lights up for 30 seconds and remove it. The car then pulled forwards normally but I then put it into reverse and it wouldn’t engage and then forwards and it wouldn’t engage.... could that mean it’s a simpler problem than the gearbox?

what did she drive like before the fault?

She was lovely just a few flat spots in acceleration but my might said that’s just normal in these cars.. I love it so want to repair just worried about the cost....
