just as a real head scratcher,

if i wanted to seal up my rear doors, not the very back one, but keep my rear seats.

is this legal? apart from insurance. would i just take it for an MOT? or would i have to take it to VOSA?

when i baught "Beast" the door handles from the doors were already removed it had been put and sailed through an MOT in that configuration, and it has got me thinking!

I am sure the work to do it would be cheaper than replacing the doors. lol

i know it would be a lot of work, but all i want to know is after the work had been carried out, how would i get it back on the road?

cheers in advance

it may be, however. i would never be able to convince the missus that buying a new depender would be the easiest option, just want to know how easy the paperwork would be, still not sure i want to do it.

there are other considerations like, How are you going to reach the back seats. not sure clambering over the backs or thru the centre at the front is gonna be a safe or realistic method of getting in and out. how will your rear seat passenger escape in the event of a head on crash blocking the front doors. How will rescuers get them out if they are injured??

What is up with the doors that makes you want to disable them.??

not to just poo poo your point, as that is my major hang up atm.

however if people can put their kids in the back of a clio or mini (new and old) then a 110 should be ok, was thinking about swapping the bench for two seats like rangerover driver seats! IF i was to do it!

MOT testers Manual says noway Jose..

Open and close the drivers and passengers' doors. Check that each latches securely in the closed position. Check also that front doors can be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle.

Reason for Failure

a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed position
b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.

Note: Reason for rejection 1 b does not apply to:
. goods vehicles modified for the carriage of high value cargoes such as armoured security vehicles
. front passenger doors if the door aperture has been permanently 'filled' as part of a specialised customisation provided that there are no obvious aperture gaps.

But with a normal car the seat tips forwards to allow access. and the roof is easily removed by the emergency service, neither are possible with a defender.

If I were you I'd be asking my Insurer what they think as ultimately it's gonna be their decision which says whether or not you can do it.

thank you. for your help. so that basically means, that the MOT i had when bought was.........

****

good to know that i was driving round illigally!

the faith you put in a piece of paper.

where does landrover stand with the new 90 csw with the forward facing rear seats? would that not be the exact same situation?

sorry for the horrid questions.

no because they arent a complete bench, you can exit the back door through the gap between the front facing seats.

and besides the safety issues i imagine you will knock a cosiderable amount off the resale value

If someone wanted a 3 door defender why would they buy a 5 door with two sealed up? I know i wouldnt anyway, thats jus my opinion tho!
