radio

Hi guys, is it safe/practical to run a perm live from the battery to the stereo, wil it flatten the battery or do any damage?

it's perfectly safe just make sure you fit an inline fuse on the live supply It'll only flatten the battery if you forget to turn it off.

i wouldn't bother trying to get from the battery though - just test the connections on the fuse box under the dash for a perm live and take it from there, 3' with no obstacles in the way... you may even be able to change the existing acc. supply to be permanent

there is already a permanent live going to the radio, thats how it remembers what radio stations ya like. why would ya want a second 1?

good point.... i assume he wants to listen to the radio with the ign off, just jump across to that wire behind the headunit then!

Strangely enough mine doesn't have a perm live I've got used to re-tuning the ****er every time I switch the radio on.

sorry should have explained- it is a new radio plugged into the iso plug, but it does not have a perm live, whoever fitted the iso plug did not wire the perm live so the radio loses the stations every time its turned of etc,not sure of the best way to resolve this without taking it to a radio shop.

i presume they've put an ISO plug onto the origional car loom? if so then check the red and yellow wire in the ISO part of the loom are the right way round. its quite common for the ISO loom to be wired wrong and the red wire (perm live in the ISO) gets wired to the ignition live in the car loom and the yellow wire (ign live in the ISO) goes to the perm live in the car loom.

if that doesnt solve it then check the car loom with a volt meter. pre '95 cars the perm live is a purple wire with a white stripe. post '95 cars its a plain purple wire that is perm live.

Spot on Mark iso wired wrong way round, many thanks what a difference not have to retune the wireless everytime i get in the disco.
