About to take on a F/L Td4 ES Premium 03 reg (01/05/03) with the Becker sat nav head unit which although working leaves a lot to be desired.

Looking to replace it with a standard head unit or one with a flip out sat nav screen and bluetooth h/free but I am trying to confirm how the existing unit is wired. Apart from the single DIN-D unit is there a separate processor hidden away somewhere. Also the is the "Harmon Kardon" badging just refering to the speakers or is there a separate Power Amp. The in-floor sub has an extended moulding, is that just for capacity or there something else in the moulding.

I did look at getting the Haynes Manual but the one that says it covers mine makes no mention of the Td4 engine on the cover but the later one does, which is right for my car?

Mine is a 04 HSE Auto

The HK power amp is under the passenger seat.

For what it is worth as a personal point of view, I thought the same as you concerning the SatNav. However my own thoughts were, it works, it gives Lat/Long when you are off road and its part of the built-in kit. Rather than muck about with the set up, I bought a Garmin 265 WT (bluetooth, handsfree, mem-slot for pics) which sits nicely above the centre clock, I can take it out if I need to and I can update it easily via my PC. Some buy Tom toms cos they want upgrades such as silly voices. I'm happy that I made this choice.

Once I have lived with the unit I might have the same feelings, we shall see. I would try to avoid making mods to the vehicle if possible and mothball the bits taken out with a view to restoring to factory spec if appropriate. The closest model I can find on the Becker web site seems to indicate the connectors are ISO standard apart from the GPS antenna etc.

The sub design/location is a bit peculiar to say the least, no evidence of any water leak which appears to be a common complaint. I am a bit puzzled as to why the sub needs more that two wires which is why I wondered what was in there.
