radio sound won't go very high

If you have the built in SatNav try disconnecting the cd drive part of it in the luggage area as it uses front speakers when giving directions and if it plays up it will affect both up and down volume levels in the front of the car.

it makes no difference. the radio volume is controlled by the DSP in the boot. if that is screwed you wont gain anything.

i dont even have my satnav connected and still nothing.

think I might completely start again with sound system then, as want to fit a double din head unit with sat nav/tv etc..

so think it might be easier to just put my own new speakers/amp in , as had another look and wiring has been bodged by previous owners ,

cheers

the other thing is this Jeff, IF you want to fit your own system, you will need a decent HU, an amp that is rated for the speakers, all the wiring to go from front to back, you wont be able to use the existing system. also, the tweeters have their own cross-overs, but you will need to adapt and wire in new cross-overs to drive the speakers in the doors.

been through it and you are looking around £700 to do it properly on a basic budget. and you will lose your steering wheel controls, if you have them fitted.
you can use the same speakers that are fitted, but you have to make sure that the new system you are fitting is going to be rated to the same spec.

i'm still trying to find a willing volunteer that can lend me a DSP unit to test my system.

I gave up on the HK alpine - I wanted to get bt connectivity. Because of the nature of the HK, I set up from scratch - leaving the HK system in (excepting main speakers) and replaced the main speakers with some decent multiways which went straight into the HK speaker mounts and running new wires from the head units to each door. I could add a ub at some point, but the setup I have is plenty good enough at the moment (it goes loud enough to mask the squeaks, knocks and rattles so I can pretend they're not there!).

I have lost my steering wheel controls, which is annoying, but the head unit is mounted above the Hevac, so not too much of a stretch for volume and source. WOuld be nice to have them back so might pm clarkey too :)

Dave - I've still got my dsp in the boot, not being used. Might not be able to get it out for a couple of weeks or so, but happy to lend if you're in need.....

ive already got a double din head unit, that I was going to fit which will be ok, then was just going to replace speakers in each door then some 6x9 speakers in the spare space either side of the boot (stealth , not visible) , also sub and amp in that space,

I already have sub and amp and cable /head unit etc.. , just need to get the speakers

this system will not be the best or even as good as standard, but should be ok

would of liked to get the HK system working , but previous owner has messed with it, and I think I could waste more time/money trying to fix it than if i just start again,

cheers

where you going to fit the D/Din unit? theres no space for it to go. under the radio you have the HEVAC unit. and its too wide to go next to the clock, plus you dont have the space behind to fit stuf.

pictures would be good as and when you fit it.

not sure yet , but was thinking next too the clock, the previous owner fitted a screen for dvd player (doesn't work), need to check its got enough room behind it first,

will post some pics up when its done

Think you might struggle there - there's only a couple of inches behind that part before the heater matrix. about enough room for a screen and nothing else

true. i had a look in mine today, no room at all behind that facia. some, and i repeat, SOME people have moved the HEVAC up to where the radio should go and did a homemade plate to fit a radio lower down. you might, and only MIGHT be able to fit a D/Din in that space. but it will be very tight.
