Radio removal

My son has a 2002 TD5 and wants to remove the original radio cassette and update but is struggling. Halfords couldn't do it and there doesn't appear to be any fixings on the radio face.

Has the radio got 2 slots in the top of the face ? They are about 1cm long .

No slots in top of the face. There is a small hole either side at the bottom of the face that look like they could be screw holes but no screws in them.

Leave in Brixton or Manc with the window open and the radio will be out in seconds.

Some have 2 holes on either side on the edge.

You sure it's original? Picture would help get the advice needed. I'd suggest going to a local motor factors as they sell the removal tools usually.

Have you googled discovery radio then look at all the images and see if you can find the one you have, any with luck will be a pic of the sides or top fixings,to give you an idea on how the spring clips look ? Or if you got the side holes just find a Allen key that just fits in it push in as far as you can then yank ! Yank hard ! (The information in the text is to be used at owners own risk )

Yeah these ones can be a little deceptive. I have the same one so just grab yourself a 2.5mm Allen key, insert, turn anti-clockwise,place your little finger inside the cassette hole and gently pull towards you and out she comes.

You're going to have to pull hard, even when you do have the correct keys, there should be an anti-vibration rubber mount at the back of the head unit and age will make it stick quite tightly.

I think you use an allen key to retract the lugs.

Yep find to Allen keys that fit Nicely into the holes then push them in as far as you can you should feel a little resistance as you do . Then leaving them in place stick ya fingers in the tape hole and pull . It will be tight as said there is a rubber/bolt mount at the rear to stop vibration . As you pull with one hand it helps if you wiggle one of the Allen keys as you pull to help dislodge the radio .

Unscrewed the allen bolts. Radio free on right hand side but solid on left. Just can't shift it so next stop garage or car audio place.
