Hi All.
Can anyone help with a radio problem.?? I have a 300 TDi 1998 and the buttons have fallen off the radio rendering it unusable...So i have bought an after market radio. it works great.. My question is ,,How can i get the rear sub woofer to work with this after market radio ??anyone any ideas ?? thanks in advance ..

The lack of info on the after market headunit isn't helpful, but dose it have a preamplified sub output, if so just connect that output to the existing audio input wires to the sub amp in the back door and with a bit of adjustment to the head unit gain/bass control and assuming the existing two power supplies to the amp have been connected at the head unit u will have a functioning sub in the back door.
Simples.

Red & Black wires is audio.

Looking at RAVE for the '97 Disco 1, the rear tailgate speakers differ from the Disco 2 ones in that the Disco 1 speakers have a sub-woofer amplifier incorporated on the mounting.
This amp will require some power as well as the audio feed.
From what I can see there are three wires involved with that, two supplying the +12 volts, one permanent and the other a switched voltage from the radio (light green/orange and a purple/yellow wire) and a black ground wire. The audio inputs to the amp are fed on a screened cable with a pair of wires, red and black.
As discool said, you'll probably need to arrange a low level output from the radio to feed the audio to the amp and also check and/or arrange the switched power feed.

I've looked at my notes on the installation of a replacement head unit, mine is a Pioneer so they may be applicable to you, maybe not.
purple--permanent live
green/orange-- switched live
red/brown--lighting
blue/yellow--amp switching
12+v amp power is taken from the head unit permanent supply, (light green/orange wire at the amp) same supply for the head unit .
12+v amp switching wire supplies and is switched by the head unit (purple/yellow at the amp), new head units have a switched output normally a blue wire.
Anyway all the feeds etc are in the ISO block/s some where
