Radio code

Hello all, can i start by my question sounding daft, but if i dont ask the question i will never know. I have a freelander 1 SE first that i have owned, and quite please with it, so far. If for any reason i have to remove the battery and either replace or refit when work is complete, will this affect the radio operation. I have been told you have to insert a radio code, but as i haven't got said code, what can i do??

Not silly at all, there are a few options:
1/ the code ought to have been given to you with the handbook etc when you got the car
2/ if not, then if you have to remove the batt there are ways of maintaining the power to the batt using jumpleads which will keep the code in it until you reconnect the original batt
3/ provided you can prove to a stealer that you are the proper owner then they will provide you with the code and they shouldn't charge you.

originally it would have been on a credit card sized car along with the Emergency Access Code and the number of the key in case you need to order a new one, unless I am wrong and things have changed since I got one with a 2000 Disco.

Not sure whats going on as i did post a reply but god knows where it went ai will try again. I did not get the handbook or service records from the car sales that i bought it from but the promised to seek it out and send on yes i doubt that to hence my question. There have been comments that it might be on a "Yellow" sticker on the actual radio casing??

What year is it, and what radio is fitted? If it's a facelift SE, then it'll have a Vestion multi-CD head unit. These do require a code for it to operate, after the battery has been disconnected.
The code came with the car, and wasn't on the radio at all.

If it's not got a multi-CD HU, then I don't think it's coded at all.

Not sure if its a "Vestion" but do believe its a multi-head cd unit (see pic attached). As i have just bought this freelander 1 and without the handbook then i do not have any idea of the coding. Im going to assume its code is not memorised withing the radio and cannot therefore be extracted??

Yes. It's the SE standard Vestion Hi spec (multi-CD) HU. It will need the code if the battery is removed, so don't disconnect the battery until you've got the code. Try an LR dealer, once they're open again .

Hi I have a 53 plate with the same stereo and when my battery failed I just swopped it and it worked with not having to put a code in.

If it's the single CD HU then no code is needed, but the multi-CD does need the code.

Single CD HU. Not coded.

Multi-CD HU. Coded.

Don’t know then Nodge68 mine has six cd’s in it and definitely didn’t have to put a code in maybe it’s just if the unit is removed from vehicle I know you know your freelanders can only say what mine is like but it’s defo six cd

Hi, I had to get the code for my multi CD unit last week, after a battery issue, I posted here and got an almost immediate response from here:

You will need to remove the unit and quote the numbers on the side though.
