Rack or bars

Hi.
Been on the hunt for a roof rack for my D1 but nothing local or cheap. I'm in Ashford in Kent.

Struggled with boot space on a recent weekend away so time to deploy the roof box I have.

My question is, as I don't have roof rails, is it possible to utilise a couple of roof bars to take the box which if then add to with additional bars, I could then use them for taking a roof tent?

I need a roof box solution pdq but want to avoid spending out on both roof bars and ultimately a roof rack.

I think a few bars will work out cheaper too but concerned that once I save for a roof tent the bars will have to go.

Any thoughts folks ?

Thats the same as I have been using. Fine for top box. I have had ladders and a sofa on mine in the past.

Keep your evey open and you will pickup a rack cheap but the cheaper one I got mine for £70 with a ladder.

I also have bars and a box which is good on normal holidays, but I took it to Morocco which I will never do again.

I am having a rack built by a guy up North who advertises on eBay and has a website MCB4x4. It's cheap in comparison to others. I am buying it for a roof tent and additional storage up front. It should arrive soon, but I have since learnt from Overland forums, that a few roof bars like the Rhino are adequate enough for a roof tent, thus a much cheaper option.
